The Face of Liu Yi Fei

I’ve mainly con­cen­trated on the face, in par­tic­u­lar the eyes. I’ve also played around with (for quite a few hours) the skin tone and try­ing to mix/​blend the colours bet­ter together. I think I’m some­what get­ting there but I can still see patches on her face :/​ Hair and cloth­ing is quite rough and at this stage, may fin­ish it some other time (cur­rently 2.30am!)

I don’t have a line-​​art ver­sion of this because, well.. I didn’t draw it out ^_​^; I started just paint­ing the eye by itself and grad­u­ally drew every­thing around it. It’s prob­a­bly a rea­son why I found it dif­fi­cult to get the over­all image look­ing right since I hadn’t sketched out what the whole piece would look like. After paint­ing the eyes, I would realise one is too high, but then already painted the skin behind it. I also end up paint­ing on wrong lay­ers etc. At times like this it’s dif­fi­cult to make changes.

12.16pm

Last night I had a friend look at the pre­vi­ous draw­ing posted above and was told there was a lot of prob­lem with the anatomy. This morn­ing I opened my psd file and tried to fix it up.

Mm..I don’t think the over­all face looks quite right, but I’m not sure about the actual details.

I am no expert, but you definetly did a great job! Her eyes(which is what you were prob­a­bly going most for) are well achieved! I love what Liu Yi Fei did with her hair :3!

Thanks for the feed­back Eza =) Hon­est opin­ion is always nec­es­sary in order to improve. When u say right eye, do you mean her right eye, or the eye on the right we see?

Hon­est feed­back, it’s artis­tic, but for me, you havn’t quite cap­tured her appear­ance yet (i know its not quite finished?)…

I feel that her face is some­how out of pro­por­tion, the left side of her face isn’t match­ing enough. When I close my eyes and cover up half her face so that i can only see the right side of the draw­ing, there is strik­ing resemblance.

I think the issue lies some­where in her right eye. If you can fix that up, it would be close to be per­fect imo :)

Sorry to post some neg­a­tive feed­back, but if it makes you feel any bet­ter, I wouldn’t be able to draw half as well as you could if my life counted on it :S

Edit: Just read your post about paint­ing on the wrong lay­ers :S Oh well, at least its mostly good :D

Any par­tic­u­lar rea­son why you like the first bet­ter than the 2nd? And yes, I use a WACOM tablet.

Nice but i pre­fer no 1 instead of no 2…
Though it’s still in progress, the out­come could be much bet­ter..
Do you using drwing pen (WACOM)?

Don’t worry, I think it’s gor­geous. I mean, at least we can recog­nise her as LYF. If we are able to, it sort of means that you’ve suc­ceeded. I’m sure that’s the base require­ment, right?

I like how you did some gra­di­ents on the cheeks to show like, the er shad­ows, but I think it’s per­haps not really obvi­ous cause LYF’s face looks kinda… fat. Okay, nvm.

But over­all, oh man I like it! =D =D
