Aim high in the sky

14.04.08 Made the fore­ground clouds softer, not sure if it’s any bet­ter. The orig­i­nal intent was to have clouds with a more solid shape.

I’ve never been good with clouds…

Well, what can I say– it’s another one of my attempts at a back­ground which isn’t turn­ing out too right. It’s obvi­ous from the image above I need a lot more prac­tice! The big chunk in the fore­ground doesn’t really look like a cloud, where’s the shape?

I think I know where the prob­lem lies– I need to work out exactly where the clouds are in rela­tion to another, which is in front? which is at the back? That will deter­mine the light­ing and shadow casted upon it. Right now they all seemed a bit joined and it’s unclear what’s hap­pen­ing. Oh well, I tried. I might con­tinue this another time, or just leave it unfin­ished like my other back­ground (green field).

Reworked on 9/​4/​08

I spent a few hours each night, dur­ing the bit of time I had after work over the past 3 nights — adding to 12 hours total. The last piece I did of Sailor Moon was mid 2006 (Bat­tle with Pharoah90), and I was sud­denly inspired by it to work on a new one– Eter­nal Sailor Moon.

Before you start think­ing “her legs are too long!”- just wanted to let you know it was inten­tional, the long legs are part of what makes Sailor Moon– Sailor Moon =)
As for the colour­ing, at first I was going to ‘paint’ it, but I real­ized the painted look didn’t quite suit it as much– so I used a bit of it, but cell-​​shade dom­i­nated in the end.

Over­all, I’m pretty happy with the out­come– maybe I should make a poster with it.

I got some com­ments from 2 peo­ple say­ing her legs needed to be ‘thinned’, so today I edited it a bit. I’ve replaced the pre­vi­ous final image in the wip– to the new one. Changes may be sub­tle, but it can enhance the over­all image. It’s pos­si­bly the last change to it, so I hope it’s bet­ter now. =)
